Scientific and creative work of the academic staff of professional Bachelor and Master study programmes “Caritative Social Work”

CARITATIVE SOCIAL WORK is analogous to “traditional” social work according to Latvian legislation. The initiative to introduce CSW in Latvian belongs to the Academy. In both theory and practice the concept is rooted in experience of the Christian Church accumulated in its 2000 years’ history. Especially Eastern Church fathers of the 4th – 8th centuries theologized about solidarity between people in order to help people, families and society in general as a task before God. Thus the most ancient praxis became invaluable resource for innovation. Curent European documents keep the tradition (social cohesion, solidarity, integration etc.).

Work-out and implementation of the concept of Caritative social work as a conceptual basis at Latvian Christian academy was initiated by its rector dr., prof. Skaidrīte Gūtmane in cooperation with European Commission’s organization EZA (European Center for Workers’ Questions, Germany) and universities and academic centers across Europe.

The present list of publications reflects this concept.

Dr., prof. Skaidrite Gūtmane, Rector of Latvian Christian academy

European Christian Academy has been developed as an interdisciplinary center for research in Orthodox theology in dialogue with social sciences and humanities. Strategic and academic management of the unique concept, as well as international coordination of research groups in various fields of knowledge was carried out by RECTOR OF ECA prof., dr. SKAIDRĪTE GŪTMANE. In 2020 prof., dr. Skaidrīte Gūtmane was awarded with Letter of Appreciation from the President of Latvian Academy of Sciences for integration of theology in social sciences, and for interdisciplinary research in humanities and promotion of the Church art traditions in Latvia.
